North America US Savannah 30 Sep 2022 - Alert: Hurricane Ian - Port terminals are CLOSED Sept 30, 2022 and expected to reopen on Saturday Oct 1st, 2022 depending on conditions. There is a high number of vessels at anchorage, over 35+ and this closure will add to existing delays. Vessel wait times are 12-20 days due to high import volume and extra loaders. Berth capacity is limited due to construction projects; smaller vessels are occupying wider berths as they are available and the port is shifting cargo to alleviate space constraints and congestion at the yards. General delays of 10 days to secure truck capacity for all equipment types.

North America US US Potential Rail Strike Averted 27 Sep 2022 - The International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers (IAM) reached a tentative deal with the railroads to avert a strike. With this latest development, now all unions in the national level bargaining round have ratified or are in the process of ratifying new agreements. North America US Los Angeles / Long Beach 27 Sep 2022 - Vessel wait time is up to 5 days at Long Beach due to import volumes. Terminal congestion is still an issue with discharged units going to undeliverable areas and not available for collection. Trucking queues often prevent drivers from pulling loads during allotted appointment times - if the appointment window expires, truckers will need to secure a new appointment. Shortage of chassis and gensets and it is difficult to secure appointments to return empties. Additional charges can occur if container cannot be picked up and or returned within the allotted free time. The Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach Container Dwell Fee is on hold until October 21, 2022. This is separate from individual terminal dwell fee agreements on long dwelling units. Long Beach is removing the weekend exemption for free time effective September 1st, 2022. Free time will be inclusive of Saturdays and Sundays (except on legal holidays) when a container terminal in Long Beach is open on either of those days.

North America US New York / New Jersey 27 Sep 2022 - Port throughput is up 36% from last year, vessels are queuing outside to berth, there are chassis shortages and severe congestion at all terminals. Export delivery dates are volatile and hold up equipment. Chassis units cannot be re-used for new container collection when empty container receiving is not available due to lack of space. This delays all operations at the port - drayage, cross-dock and line haul operations- preventing the ability to pickup before the last free day and subsequent additional costs. Vessel waiting time averages 2-7 days for APM terminal and PNCT terminal. Warehousing and distribution centers are at capacity and are giving later appointment windows, in some cases 3-4 weeks out.
